Introducing dGEN1

You’ve heard of the dGEN1, but what does it do?

An onchain EDC

The dGEN1 is a mobile crypto device. We call the dGEN1 an onchain EDC (everyday carry). The dGEN1 runs ethOS, a crypto native operating system that we (Freedom Factory) have been building since 2021. Most people connect via mobile devices. However, to date, the mobile crypto experience has been poor, and our goal with the dGEN1 is to make the mobile crypto experience very good.

System-level wallet

The dGEN1 has a system-level wallet that allows you to interact with dapps within the browser or in native mobile apps without switching apps. This means that you can bypass in-app browsers, avoid app stores that block crypto apps, and skip their high fees. With the dGEN1 you can send crypto through SMS, using system-wide ENS, mint NFTs directly from your camera roll, and much more.

Light node proxies

The dGEN1 also includes two light node proxies, with built-in Helios and Nimbus clients, giving you true sovereignty over your RPC. This means that you have a private portal to the Ethereum network, and can ensure that your transactions get through, even when other RPCs are down. The system wallet defaults to your local RPC whenever it's running.

Decentralized messaging

Messaging on the dGEN1 leverages XMTP v3. This means that you can send both SMS and wallet-to-wallet decentralized messages, all from the same place. Add a contact with their ENS or wallet address, and you can send tokens, NFTs, shitcoins, or messages instantly.

A native browser

The dGEN1 features a native browser that allows you to interact directly with onchain applications using the system wallet. No more leaving the browser or dealing with pop-ups. just one-click transactions that you can approve with a fingerprint.

Cool hardware

The dGEN1 has programmable buttons for app-specific use cases. You can customize how the buttons function, from the red and blue single-push buttons to the black volume rocker.

The dGEN1 also features the Matrix. The Matrix is a 3x3 LED grid that can display custom light sequences and animations for notifications, transactions, and app-specific indications. Developers can control the Matrix with an API.

The Terminal is a secondary touch-screen that serves multiple purposes. It can display transaction UIs, display metadata, notifications, act as a message board, or function as buttons or swipe input for apps. Developers can also control the Terminal with an API.

Next-gen UI

The dGEN1 will run a completely redesigned ethOS v4. ethOS v4 will have many of the same features of ethOS v3, and many more.
